Stacy Mitchell currently serves as the Executive Director for Preschool of the Arts in Madison, WI. Preschool of the Arts is an innovative, progressive early childhood school with a strong commitment to the arts. Preschool of the Arts has been inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia for the past 20 years. She leads nearly 60 teachers and a dynamic board of directors in a journey of shared leadership and strong beliefs about children, families and educators. Stacy is ecstatic to lead a school where she is able merge her passion for the arts with her commitment to excellence in early childhood education.
Previously, Stacy was the Site Director of JCC Gan Ami Early Education, a Jewish, Reggio Emilia-inspired early education program. She had also held the role of Curriculum and Staff Development Director, where she mentored teachers in their learning journeys. Stacy has taught infants and toddlers, 3-year olds, 4-year old kindergartners and school-age children within early childhood settings. Stacy holds a Master’s degree in Education from Cardinal Stritch University, Milwaukee, WI, where her research focused on the role of learning communities within professional development. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in both Theater and German from Marquette University. Stacy’s particular interests in the Reggio Emilia approach center on the unique role of the teacher as a learner and the strong role of the community in the education of children.
Stacy believes her most important accomplishment may be her journey in parenthood – she is lucky to be married to her supportive husband for over 20 years and together, they have been privileged to share in the growth and learning of their three children, ages 17, 14 and 12.
